An Elder in our church made a statement during Sunday Morning Worship. He said we hear of people who have passed and their friends or colleagues talk about how the deceased was fighting his/her own demons. It is used as an excuse for poor living, poor choices. The fact is they lost the fight. When you have a relationship with God, you don't have to fight your own demons...the battle has already been won. We just have to trust in His love for us and know that we are not alone. David didn't come to the battle with Goliath in his own power. He acknowledged whose power he came to fight under.
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”-1 Samuel 17:45-47 NKJV
David was prepared for this battle...SPIRITUALLY PREPARED!!! It wasn't brute strength that saved the Israelite army from the Philistines. It wasn't Davids amazing aim that brought down the giant. It was his Faith in God. I think if David wanted to, he could have breathed on Goliath and the giant would have fallen. With God, all things are possible. David knew God, he knew what God was able to do, he knew that God was with him...David acknowledged the authority and power of God.
When David acknowledged God, God honored the word and work of His servant.
Our Elder encouraged us to get to know God better. Open up His Word and learn of Him. Our battles/demons are not flesh and blood. We cannot fight these battles and win without God. He is our source of strength. He is our victor. Acknowledge Him. Don't be afraid.
I hope you are encouraged today.
We Acknowledge You
Holy Spirit, You are welcome
Come on in, take a seat, inhabit our praise
God of Zion, Judah's lion
We acknowledge Your presence, oh Lord
God of mercy, show Your glory
As we enter this place, show us Your face
God please, give us peace
We acknowledge Your presence, oh Lord
Holy Spirit, You are welcome
Come on in, take a seat, inhabit our praise
God of Zion, Judah's lion
We acknowledge Your presence, oh Lord
Oh oh oh
We acknowledge Your presence, oh Lord
Come on in, take a seat
Come on in, take a seat, oh Lord
We acknowledge Your presence
We honor Your presence
Inhabit our praise, oh Lord
Come on in, take a seat
Come on in, take a seat, oh Lord
Oh oh oh
